Michael was a defensive-minded post player known for rebounding and blocking shots. He was considered one of the best young players in the Scots program and the coaches liked his up-side.
As a senior, Michael hit a buzzer-beater in the state championiship game to give the Scots their third straight state title. Following Highland Park, he played at Cowley County Community College.
