Weems Racks Up Awards

Former Highland Park star Kyle Weems, now at Missouri State, was named 2010-11 Missouri Valley Conference Larry Bird Player of the Year.


Weems guided the Bears to its first regular-season Missouri Valley Conference title and was the only player in the league to rank in the top five in the conference in scoring, rebounding, field goal percentage, steals, and free throw percentage.


Missouri State finished 26-9 and advanced to the second round of the NIT.


Weems became the first Missouri State player ever to win the conference player of the year award.  He averaged 16.0 points, 6.9 rebounds, 1.4 assists, and 1.4 steals per game while starting all 35 contests during his junior season.


He was also named to the Associated Press All-America Basketball Team earning honorable mention honors.


In addition, Weems was a CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major All-American, was named the Bears' Coors Player of the Year, and earned NABC All-District and USBWA All-Region honors this season.


While at Highland Park (2004-07), Weems was a two-time all-state selection and won two state titles in 2004 and 2007.
