About the Book

Family on 3 is a true story about the Highland Park Scots 2006-07 basketball team.

The book is a behind-the-scenes look at one of the best teams ever in Kansas high school basketball as they deal with controverial events and adversity in their lives.

Highland Park is an inner city school located on the east side of Topeka, the capital of Kansas.  The Scots were coached by Ken Darting, one of the most successful coaches in state history.

The leading scorer during their storied season was Kyle Weems, who was named the 2010-11 Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year for Missouri State.  Highland Park all-state point guard Lamont Austin was a key player for Morehead State this season as the Golden Eagles posted an upset victory over Louisville in the NCAA Tournament.

Kyle and Lamont were the leaders of the team, but forward Ty Modupe and guards Adrian Herrera and Rico Richardson rounded out a starting five that gave the Scots scoring threats at every spot.  Scoring garnered the headlines, but it was their tough man-to-man defense that separated the Scots from the pack.

The book details the Scots journey from day one until the state tournament.  The behind-the-scenes, in-depth reporting from inside the locker room during games, on the bus trips, and sitting behind the bench gives the reader a true feel of what their season was like.

This is a must-read for basketball fans, sports fans, or fans of people that are trying to succeed while dealing with adversity in their lives.
